Moroccan lamps are beautiful because of the high-quality materials used in their creation and talent and creativity.
The craftsmen who design and make them. Since mechanization plays such a small role in the manufacturing process, every Moroccan Lighting fixtures are a unique work of art. While some aspects of manufacturing have to be kept between the master craftsman and Apprentice, there are three basic techniques for creating these wonderful lanterns
“TEKHRAME”: THE HAMMER CRAFT METHOD
This technique is an easier and less expensive making process, as it requires less precision. In this method, the artisans use the brass sheet already fashioned into small triangles, using canvas, based on the end product in mind. Next, they will hammer the small triangle-shaped craft and polish the finished product with a machine, making it ready for use.
“SERROUJ” : THE FRETSAW CRAFT TECHNIQUE
The primary raw material is 100% pure copper. In this method, the craftsmen start with a large sheet of solid brass that has been cut by hand into the individual components that they want to fashion. The overall design of many types of lamps will be affected by the size and shape of each individual element.
Next, the craftsmen create a paper frame that will be used in the design process. After affixing the paper frame to the cut copper sheet, the craftsmen would begin cutting with a small traditional cutting tool similar to a mini fret saw.
Then, the craftsmen carve the design by hammering copper to generate tiny scratches. Next, they shape the craft with a large mallet into small pieces.
Finally, each piece will be welded together to complete the craft and make it ready for use.
To create exquisite embossing, each sheet has a design that is cooked and then hand-perforated and sawn using high-quality jeweler’s saws.
“HOLES”: THE NEEDLE HAMMER TECHNIQUE
This method also involves some meticulous processes, and the time and effort committed to it by skilled craftsmen varies, depending on the size of the product. Here, artisans cut out the brass shape they want to use. After that, they use a hammer and needles to make holes over the brass sheet, making it into their desired design and making it ready for us
